Getting started
Install Heron
Download and install Heron on Mac, Windows or Linux, plus what to know about the iPhone, iPad and Android apps.
On this page
Heron is available on Mac, Windows and Linux. The iPhone, iPad and Android apps are coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. Once you have a Heron account, your mailboxes show up on every device you sign in on.
On Mac
- Download Heron for Mac (Apple chips: M1, M2, M3…). For a Mac with an Intel processor, get the Intel version instead.
- Open the
.dmgfile in your Downloads. - Drag Heron into the Applications folder.
- Open Heron from Launchpad or the Applications folder, then sign in.
Good to know: to check which processor your Mac has, open the menu → About This Mac: a “Chip” line means an Apple chip, a “Processor” line means Intel.
On Windows
- Download Heron for Windows (Windows 10 and 11, x64 and ARM processors).
- Open
Heron.exein your Downloads. - Until the installer is signed, Windows may show “Windows protected your PC” (SmartScreen). Click More info, then Run anyway.
- Follow the installer: you can pick the install folder, and a desktop shortcut is created.
- Open Heron and sign in.
Good to know: on Windows, closing the window keeps Heron running in the background (icon next to the clock) so notifications keep arriving. To really quit, right-click that icon → Quit.
On Linux
Heron ships as an AppImage, which runs on most distributions without installing anything.
-
Download Heron for Linux.
-
Make the file executable: right-click → Properties → Allow executing file as program, or in a terminal:
chmod +x ~/Downloads/Heron-linux-x86_64.AppImage -
Double-click the file to open Heron, then sign in.
As on Windows, closing the window leaves Heron in the notification area.
On iPhone, iPad and Android
The mobile apps are coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. When they’re out, sign in with your Heron account: your mailboxes are already there, no need to add them again.
What’s next?
- Create your Heron account if you haven’t yet.
