Heron + Claude

Your email, right inside Claude.

Ask Claude for a rundown of your day, to tidy your inbox or to draft a reply. Heron handles the connection to all your accounts, with nothing to install, and you set the rules.

In a conversation, turn it on with the + button → Connectors.

On iPhone and Android: add the connector once on claude.ai, then it is available in the Claude apps.

Claude Code

Add the server from your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http heron https://api.heronmailapp.com/mcp

Add --scope user to make it available in all your projects.

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user heron https://api.heronmailapp.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in in your browser.

The heron command line

For agents that work in a terminal: same tools, same sign-in, same permissions. Coming soon to npm (heronmail).

heron login
heron search "is:unread in:inbox" --json
heron reply <id> --body "…"

heron skill prints the guide written for agents.

Permissions

You decide, mailbox by mailbox.

AI agent access stays off until you turn it on, and every mailbox starts at “No access”. Set everything in Heron → Settings → AI agents, or on the consent screen.

Level The agent can…
No access default Nothing: the mailbox is invisible to the agent.
Read List, search and read your email, threads, text attachments and contacts.
Read + drafts and organizing Also: prepare drafts, archive, move, mark read or unread, flag, snooze, undo.
Everything, including sending Also: send and schedule email.
  • Shortcuts apply one level to all your mailboxes at once.
  • Agent drafts land in your mailbox’s real Drafts folder: you will find them in Heron and in any mail app.

Confirm before sending

Nothing goes out without your OK.

On by default, “Confirm before sending” holds every send requested by an agent until you approve it.

  1. Claude asks to send: Heron puts it on hold.
  2. You get “Claude wants to send an email to … — Approve / Decline”, and a banner in Heron shows the full message.
  3. Once approved, it goes out normally, with your undo delay and scheduled sending. Without an answer, the request expires after 24 hours.

Control

Everything visible, everything revocable.

  • Activity log

Every agent action is recorded: tool, mailbox, messages concerned, result. Kept for 90 days.

  • Instant disconnect

The list of connected agents (Claude, Claude Code, CLI…) shows the device and last use. “Disconnect” cuts access right away.

  • Protected tokens

Access lasts 1 hour and can be renewed for up to 60 days after last use. Heron only keeps hashes of the tokens.

Privacy

What you should know.

Read the privacy policy
  • Email that Claude reads through Heron is sent to Anthropic and processed under its own privacy policy. Only grant access to the mailboxes you need.
  • To the agent, email content is untrusted data: it is instructed never to follow instructions found in an email.
  • Heron keeps the list of connected agents, the activity log (90 days) and sends awaiting approval (24 hours at most).

Troubleshooting

Claude says no account is accessible
Turn on “AI agent access” and pick a level for at least one mailbox in Settings → AI agents.
An action is denied
The mailbox’s level doesn’t allow it: raise it if you want to.
401 or “unauthorized” error
The connection expired or was revoked: reconnect the connector, run /mcp again in Claude Code, or heron login.
