Attachments

Attach files to a message, and open, save or share the ones you receive, on desktop and mobile.

Attach files

On desktop:

  • click the paperclip Attach files in the composer;
  • or drag your files straight into the window (“Drop your files to attach them”).

On mobile: tap the paperclip, then choose Photos, Files or Paste from clipboard (for a copied image). On iPad with a keyboard, ⇧⌘V pastes as an attachment.

The total size of your attachments is shown below the message. To remove one, click Remove (or the cross).

Important: a message’s attachments can’t exceed 25 MB in total. Above that, Heron won’t let you send. For a bigger file, share a link instead (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive…).

When you forward a message, its attachments are included automatically. Once a draft has attachments, the sender (From field) can no longer change.

Open and save an attachment you received

On desktop, in the message:

  • click: download;
  • double-click: open with the default app;
  • right-click: Open, Save As…, Show in Finder (or Show in folder on Windows and Linux).

With several files, Download All or Save All… grabs them in one go.

On mobile, tap an attachment to Preview it, or use Share… and Save to Files. Save All grabs every file in the message.

Privacy

Heron doesn’t keep a copy of your attachments: they’re read from your mail server when you open them. See Data we store.
